要約

We present a case study of the faculty development strategies and practices at the University of Durham, a medium-sized university in the northeast of England. We list the university’s aims and objectives, give details of its training center and training courses, and describe the activities of its information technology services. Finally, we report the results of interviews with four members of staff giving their views on faculty development at the university. Our purpose in writing this paper is to give Japanese university teachers the opportunity to see in detail how UK government policies and other factors have affected faculty development in one institution. We hope that this information will be useful in the planning and implementation of faculty development in universities in Japan.
