Academic Interests
  • Violence inflicted on nurses by psychiatric patients:
Currently, my main area of research concerns the experience of psychiatric patients who have used violence on nurses. I have examined the triggers for the violence and the patients' thoughts about inflicting violence. As the International Council of Nurses has noted in its Guidelines on Coping with Violence in the Workplace, violent attacks by patients on nurses have been increasingly attracting attention in recent years. However, psychiatric patients aren't included in present guidelines. This research is based on the premise that both psychiatric patients and nurses want to make an effort to establish guidelines for reducing and coping with violence.
  • Experience-Based Psychiatric Nursing Practicum:
Fukuoka Prefectural University and affiliated hospitals are jointly aiming to improve the quality of the experience-based psychiatric nursing practicum and nursing care. Action research on the experience-based psychiatric nursing practicum workshop is therefore underway. I would like to conduct refresher courses in response to the needs of the nurses, with a particular emphasis on the special nature of psychiatric nursing.
