Tomoaki Shinohe (Instructor)

BA in political science and economics (Seigakuin University, Saitama, 1997);
MA in political science (Seigakuin University, Saitama, 1999).

Shinohe Tomoaki was born in Morioka-shi, Iwate. After graduating with an MA from Seigakuin University, he worked at the Institute of Family Functioning (IFF) in Tokyo. After studying alcoholism, "adult children", eating disorders, and other family-related problems at the IFF, he moved to the social welfare department at Iwate Prefectural University as a research assistant. In 2003 he became a lecturer at FPU. He is the author of Small Customs to Stop Addictive Behavior published by Kobunsha. The Korean revised edition entitled Get Away from Consumption Addiction was published by Cobook Publishing.

Courses
Undergraduate
  1. Addiction and present society: The purpose of this class is to learn not only about substance addictions such as alcoholism, but also about process addictions such as gambling and shopping. Students gain an understanding of family problems and present social problems at a deeper level.


  2. Policies on health care and welfareThis class is offered to fourth-year nursing students. Students learn about the policymaking processes and some of the laws regarding health care and welfare.


  3. Graduation thesisIn their 4th-year, students conduct a piece of original research and write a graduation thesis.

  • The study of social withdrawal (Hikikomori) and related family problems
