- Science and sex/sexuality education: We (a group of researchers from all over Japan) are attempting to establish a scientific basis for sex and sexuality education. In this research, we cover a broad range of interests such as natural sciences (e.g. evolutionary theory), social sciences, humanities, law, medicine, and philosophy.
- National health policy for maternal and child health: The national program for maternal and child health "Sukoyaka Oyako 21 (Healthy parents and children for the 21st century)" was launched in 2001. In this program, a group of researchers, including myself and led by Professor Yamagata Zentaro of Yamanashi University, seek scientific evidence for national health policies by conducting various kinds of research.
- Health promotion for adolescents: In "Sukoyaka Oyako 21", adolescent health was given a higher priority with random national surveys being conducted on their health. Suicide, abortion, and sexually transmitted infections are the major health problems among Japanese adolescents. In response, we are planning appropriate academic interventions.
