Course introduction
The School of Nursing at FUKUOKA PREFECTURAL UNIVERSITY is comprised of the following 6 faculties.
Faculty of Clinical Nursing Science|Faculty of Women & Nursing and Child Care|Faculty of Community & International Nursing
Faculty of Fundamental Nursing Science|Faculty of Adult & Gerontological Nursing|Faculty of Experimental Nursing

The main themes that the faculty pursues are concerned with educational practice and administrative design. Education methods and techniques are studied so that, once out in society, each student can continue to learn. Moreover, experience-based practical learning is applied. By studying patient-education designed to help patients become independent and reflecting on the nursing services offered, students practice how to serve the needs of the care-receivers.Furthermore, the students are given opportunities to go beyond the course contents through practical training and interactions with specialists and NPO members. This course is offered by staff members specializing in education, administration, policy, language and information.

Women's Nursing and Child Care is made up of 2 separate courses (on women's nursing and child care) and is taught by 12 teaching members. Students receive lectures, training exercises, and practical training on healthcare support and familiarize themselves with issues surrounding pregnancy and other aspects of female health. In tokology, students are exposed to the demands of midwifery and childbirth. In Child Care, students learn how to understand and empathise with children at different stages of development. Together with the students, we aim to develop nursing care for families while building networks within the community.

Community and International Nursing is designed to develop public health nursing teachers capable of performing central roles in community nursing. We also strive to produce similarly excellent Yogo teachers for the school healthcare services, and nurses capable of involvement on the international stage. In practical training sessions, students learn firsthand about the nursing services offered in the community. This enables them to reflect upon and evaluate regional healthcare policies and issues. Likewise, the programs for Yogo teacher development and International Nursing are designed to produce experts capable of taking the initiative and solving problems.

In Fundamental Nursing, the courses are divided into Fundamental Nursing Science, the Science of Family/Home Nursing and the Science of Psychiatric Nursing. In Fundamental Nursing Science, students examine definitions of nursing and the basic techniques of nursing. They also study ways to help care-receivers concentrate on recovery. In the Science of Family/Home Nursing, students learn how to address family issues in order to protect the health of family members. In the Science of Psychiatric Nursing, students examine tecniques for promoting mental health as well as nursing services for psychiatric patients. The related field of Healing Therapy was applied to a Japanese university curriculum for the first time by Fukuoka Prefectural University.

Adult and Gerontological Nursing provides 2 specialized courses on adult nursing and nursing care for the elderly. These courses are particularly relevant given Japan's rapidly aging society. Through practical training and lectures offered in conjunction with the Faculty of Clinical Nursing, students examine the nursing care given to patients during their acute, recovery and chronic phases, as well as after being discharged. Gerontological Nursing examines behaviors, health problems and medical conditions associated with old age. In addition, students learn about trends in social welfare nursing support for senior citizens and their families. Concurrently, students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience alongside professional care-givers.

Of all Schools of Nursing around the nation, very few offer the Faculty of Experimental Nursing. Students engage in basic studies designed to promote evidence-based nursing where experience is not all that count for. One of the researchers in the faculty stains tissues known to induce prostate-gland enlargement while another tries to unravel the procreation mechanism of how a fertilized egg, which is just one tissue at first, develops into an individual entity. There is also a researcher striving to develop a methodology for asymmetric synthesis that is environmentally sound and efficient with the use of biocatalysts like enzyme. By all means, there are individuals working on research subjects unique to nursing, i.e., infection-control nursing in maternity nursing and prevention of in-hospital infection of staphylococcus aureus. Another researcher is studying the effects of nursing care by applying a physiological method.
