Eimi TASHIRO (associate professor)

BA in literature (Kyushu University, 1976);
MA in literature (Kyushu University, 1979).

Eimi Tashiro studied sociology at Kyushu University from 1972 to 1982, specializing in urban sociology. After graduating with an MA in literature, she worked at Nishi-Kyushu University and joined Fukuoka Prefectural University as an associate professor in 1992.

Courses
1. Introduction to the key concepts of sociology: This course for first-year students provides an outline of fundamental sociological concepts.
2. Life Structure Theory: This course introduces the basics of Life Structure Theory and methods for analyzing aspects of contemporary life such as time budgets, household economy, life-stage, life-history, personal social network and lifestyle.
3. Environmental sociology: The aim of this course is to throw light on the relationship between environmental problems and social structure. In addition, the course examines social movements for environmental preservation.
4. Social research: This course aims to develop social research methods and the skills. Students are required to devise and execute a research plan, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and write a report.
5. Seminar on sociological research methods: This course is for second-year students.
6. Seminar on problems in local communities: This course is for third-year students.
7. Seminar for graduation thesis preparation: This course is for fourth-year students.
