Yutaka MOTEKI (professor)

BA in Economics (Chuo University, Tokyo, 1973);
MA
in Sociology (Waseda University, Tokyo, 1975).

Professor Moteki was born and brought up in the countryside of Gunma Prefecture (North of Tokyo) then moved into the metropolis for several years of city life before coming down to Tagawa in 1978. At that time, FPU was not a university but a two-year college for training social workers and nursey/kindergarten teachers.

Courses
Introduction to Sociology: In this course, Professor Moteki covers the basics of studying sociology, including methodology of social research, sociology of families and communities, industrial sociology, social trends, and so on. 
Sociological Research Methodology: This course goes into sociological research in more depth and teaches students how to design research projects and includes such topics as questionairre design, sampling techniques, statistical analysis, and so on. 
Social Work Research Methods: This course covers similar ground to Sociological Research Methodology but is designed specifically for students who are majoring in welfare and social work.

Other Information

Professor Moteki is on the university's IT committee and has a great interest in developing on-line learning environments. He is currently working on a web site (http://www.shakaigaku.net/) for his students to obtain information related to sociology and sociological research. The web site also includes a message board system for students to experience on-line discussion.

In his free time, Professor Moteki enjoys gardening, walking, and playing with his cat.
