Akira KAI (professor)

BA in Education (Hiroshima University, 1969);
Special postgraduate course in instrumental music (Hiroshima University, 1970).

Akira Kai was born and raised in Hiroshima Prefecture. He grew up with music and played trumpet and piano from an early age. After graduating from Hiroshima University, he gained professional experience as a high school teacher, a 2-year college teacher, and as a composer and conductor. He's been a member of the staff at Fukuoka Prefectural University since 1983.

Academic Interests
Research-based concrete learning programs and their implications on teaching methods for beginners:
In the course of this research, Professor Kai has written a number of books on the theory of music for students aiming to become kindergarten or elementary school teachers. Known as "The Step Series", these books enable future teachers to read and play music more easily. They have gone through many editions with a major publisher and been extremely well-received critically.
Professor Kai's current research in this field is based on chord structures.
