Majoring in Life-span Development

At Fukuoka Prefectural University, Life-span Development incorporates the two disciplines of Lifelong Education and Clinical Psychology.

Participating students gain an historical and theoretical insight into the concept of life-long education and its positioning in broader educational systems. The ultimate objective is to produce highly-specialized professionals capable of playing active roles in the field of lifelong education.
Six-month field work sessions enable students to go to lifelong learning institutions and facilities to interact with social education supervisors and other individuals engaged in life-long learning. This firsthand experience allows the students to cultivate practical skills and problem-solving abilities.

The Graduate School has been recognized as a postgraduate institute in clinical psychology (2nd class) by the Japanese Certification Board for Clinical Psychology. As such, our aim is to produce clinical psychologists with a range of applicable and practical skills. Through their experience at cooperating hospitals, our students acquire the psychological techniques required to offer personal support. In addition, a number of basic courses relevant to clinical psychology (such as developmental psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, and gerontological psychology) are made available in an effort to provide students with knowledge and abilities applicable to people of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
