Life-long Welfare Research Center

One of the major issues facing citizens today is how to build a society in which people can live together in perfect harmony. In order to build such a society, it is necessary to train people who have the skills and knowledge, as well as the empathy, to deal with complex social and welfare needs. To meet this challenge, FPU established a Research Center of Life-long Development and Welfare in 1998.

Three full-time staff (a full-time researcher and two research assistants) are employed at the center, as well as many part-time researchers from both the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Nursing. The center incorporates many research projects and study groups, of which the most well-known is The Development of Care Equipment Project. This project has won praise from the governor of Fukuoka Prefecture and the mayor of Tagawa City.

In addition, the Research Center of Life-long Development and Welfare has been the source of many other innovations and services for local citizens. To cite but a few examples:

The Study of Teaching Programme for Children with Autism;
The Project to Rediscover Chikuho Culture;
The Gender Studies Group;
The English Teacher's Forum in Chikuho;
The Tagawa Toy Library;
The Citizen's University of Chikuho.

We also hope to establish mutually-beneficial relationships with researchers in other countries. Should you require any additional information, please contact us.
