Fukuoka Prefectural University (FPU) is one of three universities under the jurisdiction of the prefectural government in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The others are Fukuoka Women's University andKyushu Dental College. FPU can trace its roots back to the founding of the Fukuoka College of Childcare in 1952, and was granted university status forty years later in 1992. Initially, the university consisted of just one faculty (the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences) incorporating three departments: the Department of Sociology, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Department of Human Development and Education. In 2003, FPU opened a new School of Nursing in response to Japan's aging population and the need for more healthcare professionals. The School of Nursing represents a substantial investment by the people of Fukuoka Prefecture, and provides state-of-the-art facilities and an exceptionally high standard of training for the nurses of the future.
"Do your best in pursuit of your dreams.
You have endless possibilities,
and limitless potential."
Of course, in this day and age, it is vital that universities adopt an international perspective and provide opportunities for students to learn about and visit other countries. In pursuit of this goal, FPU has established a number of educational and cultural exchange programmes with universities and colleges outside Japan. We currently have an academic cooperation agreement with Nanjing Normal University in China as well as with Tegu University in South Korea. In addition, every summer our students are given the opportunity to participate in study abroad programmes at either Monash University in Australia or the University of York in the United Kingdom. We would be very interested in establishing similar programmes with other institutions, particularly those with courses similar to ours. Finally, if you are a student interested in studying Japanese at a university in Japan, FPU would be an excellent choice for you.
Thank you for visiting the FPU web site. Please feel free to contact us directly should you require further information.
