Fukuoka Prefectural University is located in the historic city of Tagawa. A small city with a population of just 50,000, Tagawa is in the heart of the Fukuoka countryside and, in recognition of its contribution to the industrialization of Japan, has applied for World Heritage Site status. Aside from its impressive industrial legacy and coal-mining museum, Tagawa is most famous for its annual river-crossing festival and local scenery. Nearby Mount Hiko is the highest mountain in Fukuoka and, at 1200 meters, the hike to the summit is truly breathtaking- the hundreds of stone steps, lanterns and torii gates make it clear that you are in Japan!
